Engine Test and Manufacturing Engineer II

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As an Engine Test and Manufacturing Engineer II, you'll play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing new manufacturing processes for our family of engines. These engines are powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. You'll work closely with our team of engineers to integrate design requirements into processes and procedures, ensuring the efficient and economical production of aerospace products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop new rocket engine integration processes
  • Translate engineering intent into fully functional hardware by developing manufacturing work instructions
  • Closely lead integration build sequence, cost, quality, and schedule of hardware daily throughout the entire manufacturing process
  • Deploy recovery strategies, perform root cause analyses, and run corrective actions when non-conformances and escapes are identified
  • Lead hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire test process
  • Define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight
  • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize the build schedule
  • Conduct DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
  • Perform engineering drawing reviews and provide final approval for manufacturing
  • Develop process control measures and evaluate them through statistical analysis
  • Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment are manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered properly, on time, and budget
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Mastery of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Broad experience in hardware manufacturing: assembly, integration, instrumentation, cleaning, non-destructive testing, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, fabrication, machining, etc.
  • Tried experience and successful track record developing/starting new manufacturing processes
  • Strong intuition and judgment when faced with ambiguity and the need to make high-velocity decisions
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 4+ years of relevant experience
