Nuclear Medicine Technologist

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is a vital member of the healthcare team at Northern Light Health. This role requires a high level of expertise in coordinating patient flow to obtain requested imaging studies in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying orders, ensuring the quality of imaging equipment, and providing proper patient identification and education. This position involves working with patients of all age groups, including infancy, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics, and requires knowledge of age-specific protocols. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist must be flexible and able to cover a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and non-restricted call duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and minimize hazards of electric shock, burns, and extraneous radiation.
- Determine the most suitable anatomical posture and position patients accordingly.
- Assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedures and make appropriate physician contact for intervention.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Perform highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examinations and document any deviations.
- Interact professionally with patients and families.
- Understand and practice proper use of all equipment, never operating equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instructions.
- Communicate effectively with other departments to remove barriers with patient throughput and care.
- Prepare and administer radiopaque mixtures for patients.
- Operate Med-Rad power injectors.
- Communicate effectively with ordering physicians to ensure patients receive the best care and fastest turnaround time.
- Perform venipuncture on all patients requiring administration of IV contrast.
- Obtain written or verbal consent from patients or other responsible parties before administering IV contrast.
- Show flexibility in covering vacant shifts as department needs arise.
- Prepare and maintain records and files as directed.
Requirements:
• Licensed as a Radiologic Technologist
• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
• Ability to lift, move, and load 20 to 30 pounds
Working Conditions:
This position is located at Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital and requires working in a fast-paced environment with a high level of patient interaction. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist must be able to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and non-restricted call duties as needed.
