Emergency Care Associate/Medical Assistant ED Mercy Health Austintown Emergency Department

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Care Associate/Medical Assistant to join our team at Bon Secours Mercy Health. As a key member of our Emergency Department, you will provide direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide basic patient care and tasks, including vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, and assists with mobility, lab draws, ECGs, and basic wound care under the direction of an RN.
- Complete patient rounding as assigned and provide 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
- Act as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns, and provide high-level customer service to all patients, families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
- Accurately and precisely document patient care and participate in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs.
- Perform delegated tasks once competency has been validated and collect data within scope.
- Complete patient screenings as applicable and promote quality and safety by seeking to continually improve processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
- Current certification for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting (preferred)
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Previous experience working as a Patient Care Tech, within a nursing support role or previous healthcare experience or second year nursing student from a Registered Nurse (RN) program (preferred)
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids. May be required to use physical restraints. May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc. May have periods of constant interruptions. Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Prolonged periods of working alone.
Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
