The Academic Advisor I role at Middle Georgia State University is a dynamic position that requires a strong commitment to student success. As a key member of the university's academic support team, you will play a critical role in guiding students through their academic journey, ensuring they achieve their educational goals and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities- Provide academic advising to students, helping them to define and develop realistic educational career plans.
- Assist students in selecting courses and registering for classes, ensuring they meet academic requirements and stay on track to graduate.
- Serve as a resource specialist, connecting students with other institutional resources such as the Student Success Center, Academic Affairs, and Counseling Services.
- Monitor student progress, meeting with them to discuss their academic program, grades, and other performance indicators.
- Adhere to university policies, including student privacy regulations such as FERPA.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in higher education, preferably in academic advising or a related field.
- Knowledge of admission, registration, and degree program requirements.
- Knowledge of academic standards governing the student population.
- Knowledge of student recruitment and retention principles.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience with DegreeWorks or other academic advising software.
- Knowledge of student information systems and data analysis tools.
