Position Overview

The role of a Visual Arts Teacher encompasses two distinct classifications: Range 1 and Range 2. As teachers progress in their careers, their involvement in school initiatives beyond the classroom expands. All teachers may be assigned additional responsibilities aligned with their qualifications, training, and experience.

Range 2 Classroom Teacher
Teachers at this level play a crucial role in enhancing student performance and educational outcomes as outlined in the school's strategic plan. They contribute to the formulation and execution of school policies and priorities.

A key aspect of this position involves elevating the knowledge of fellow staff members regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices to help define effective teaching methodologies.

Expectations for Range 2 teachers include:

  • Possessing the necessary content knowledge and pedagogical skills to address the diverse needs of all students.
  • Exemplifying outstanding classroom practices and mentoring colleagues in reflective teaching practices.
  • Providing expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that shape professional learning for individuals and the school.
  • Supervising and training student teachers.
  • Assisting staff in utilizing student data to inform instructional strategies aimed at improving learning outcomes.

Range 1 Classroom Teacher
The primary focus for Range 1 teachers is to develop their skills and competencies under structured support, while planning and delivering educational programs to meet specific student outcomes. These teachers are responsible for a variety of classes and are accountable for the effective implementation of their programs.

Range 1 teachers operate under general supervision within established guidelines and may oversee the training of student teachers. They actively participate in the development of school policies and programs, contributing to the implementation of school priorities.

Under guidance, new teachers will plan and instruct student groups across one or more subjects and are expected to engage in professional development activities that integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy.

Responsibilities of the classroom teacher may include but are not limited to:

  • Direct instruction for groups and individual students.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum areas or programs.
  • Performing additional teaching-related and organizational duties as assigned by the School Principal.
  • Participating in activities such as staff meetings and school events.
  • Carrying out non-teaching supervisory responsibilities.
