Aquatic Lifeguard

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aquatic Lifeguard to join our team at the City of Bellingham. As an Aquatic Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our patrons and providing exceptional customer service.

• Provide lifeguarding services at our aquatic facilities, including pool and beach areas.
• Respond to emergencies and provide first aid and CPR as needed.
• Clean and maintain the facilities, including locker rooms and staff areas.
• Attend monthly in-service trainings and assist with training sessions as needed.
• Complete all necessary paperwork and reports.

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with members of the public of all ages and abilities.
• Customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to secure and maintain American Red Cross certifications, including Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers.

Work is performed year-round in a humid indoor Aquatics Center and outdoors during the summer months at City-owned beaches. Employees often walk on wet or slick surfaces around pool area and waterfront areas. Frequently interacts with the public in the field, which may include exposure to hostile, offensive language, or interactions with angry or volatile individuals.

Frequent exposure to pool chemicals and cleaning agents. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials such as blood. General safety precautions are taken into consideration for the majority of these hazards. Exposed to outside weather conditions.
