Job Description

Job Title: Bus Driver

Purpose Statement: The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions, ensuring vehicle operation is in a safe operating condition, and ensuring the safety of students during transport, loading, and unloading from buses.

Essential Functions
  1. Administers first aid for minor injuries in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  2. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents, and/or potential emergency situations to resolve or recommend a resolution.
  3. Assists students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading from buses, including emergency situations and normal transport.
  4. Attends meetings, trainings, etc. to maintain skills and meet requirements of school bus driver certificate.
  5. Communicates with parents, students, teachers, administrators, etc. to convey and/or receive information.
  6. Drives school bus to transport regular education and/or special education students over scheduled routes and to/from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
  7. Escorts children to ensure their safety and welfare.
  8. Fuels assigned vehicle to maintain vehicle in a safe operating condition.
  9. Inspects assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior, to ensure safety, appearance, and sanitation.
  10. Monitors students, parents, and/or teachers during transit to maintain order and ensure passenger safety.
  11. Performs first aid as necessary to meet immediate health care needs of passengers.
  12. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safe operating condition of vehicle and meet state requirements.
  13. Prepares documentation, such as daily mileage and condition reports, incident/accident reports, inspections, disciplinary and positive behavior reports, mileage, etc. to provide written support and/or convey information.
Other Functions
  1. Assists other personnel as needed to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Job related experience is desired. Valid California Commercial Class A or B Driver's and S Endorsement. License with passenger, air brakes, and school bus endorsements. School Bus Certificate. First Aid/CPR Certification after hire. Alcohol and Drug Test when hired. Pre-placement Medical Exam when hired.

Responsibility: Working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget.

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
