Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Pima County Health Department. The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of a physician, physician assistant (PA), or nurse practitioner (NP) in a public health ambulatory setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform delegated clinical procedures appropriate to the individual's medical assistant education and training.
  • Ensure the clinic and equipment are cleaned, disinfected, and organized, and that activities conducted within the clinic comply with quality assurance practices, as well as risk management, safety, and infection control procedures.
  • Triage patients, take readings of vital signs, draw blood samples, perform CLIA-waived tests, and assist patients to complete mandatory information and consent forms prior to consultation and examination by the registered nurse case manager.
  • Assist case managers with examinations, medical procedures, and treatment of patients, including dispensing medication and providing information on the treatment and prevention of TB.
  • Perform daily checks on the TB Air Monitoring System, room temperatures, and the laboratory and medication refrigerators' temperatures to ensure they are set within the recommended optimal range.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, including maintaining patients' medical charts and files, arranging collection and delivery of laboratory samples and patient's medication, monitoring and recording medication inventories, scheduling consultations, x-rays, and routine TB-related tests for patients, and registering patients with emocha Health and Straight Talk Prevention Services.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certification AND six (6) months of medical assistance work experience OR enrollment in a certified Medical Assistant (MA) Program or certification from a valid educational institute.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a clinical setting.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Records.
  • Experience with scheduling, and billing for medical services.
  • Experience with collecting and processing laboratory specimens.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. The selected candidate will be required to provide own transportation between facility locations.
