Hospital Education Program Director

The Richmond Public Schools' Hospital Education Program operates within the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, providing educational services to students hospitalized in grades PK-12, including post-graduates. Our goal is to ensure that students have access to their educational program within the hospital setting. We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team and provide support and services to our students.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for evaluating student function, identifying those requiring school-based therapy services, and developing appropriate programs for ongoing progress. They will provide direct and indirect services for fine motor and communication skills across all instructional areas, including literacy, writing, math, art, music, adapted PE, and pre-vocational skills. Additionally, they will assist teachers with adapting and modifying activities, materials, and the environment to support student learning and participation.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
We are seeking an individual with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited university, along with the necessary license as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Health Professions. A thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school-based occupational therapy services is essential. Excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills are also required. Bilingual skills, including Spanish, are preferred.
