Position Overview
The Music Therapist I plays a vital role in delivering mental health support to students with diverse disabilities within a comprehensive classroom environment. Utilizing music as a therapeutic tool, the Music Therapist aids students in achieving specified educational objectives and goals. This therapy is uniquely tailored to meet the behavioral, psycho-social, emotional, communicative, physiological, sensory-motor, and cognitive requirements of the students.

Work Hours: 16 Hours

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions for children using music therapy methods and interventions.
  • Keep detailed and current records of all interactions, including the nature of the interventions, periodic assessments, and discharge summaries.
  • Collaborate with community partners and other professionals at Kennedy Krieger as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication in a professional manner with parents, guardians, agency representatives, administration, and colleagues regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Document all contacts and interactions thoroughly.
  • Provide assessments of children as required.
  • Engage in classroom team meetings, mental health team discussions, and IEP meetings as necessary.
  • Support the school’s mission and objectives positively and professionally, fostering a student-centered culture as outlined by the administration and in accordance with KKI policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Applicants must exhibit proficiency across all age groups due to the varied nature of the children and families served by KKI. The clinical focus includes neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or a related field with equivalent training in Music Therapy.

Must be Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT) or eligible to take the Board Certification Exam. Certification must be achieved within six months of hire and maintained thereafter.


Experience:
Prior experience in music therapy is preferred.
