Job Overview:
The Quality Assurance Manager is accountable for overseeing the daily operations of the FSQA department, ensuring compliance with food safety protocols, adherence to specifications, and maintaining product excellence within the designated facility. This role also involves managing special projects, departmental budgets, employee turnover, and safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise production practices, including raw material receiving standards, sanitation processes, and finished product quality control.
- Ensure compliance with all Client FSQA policies and procedures.
- Monitor verification and documentation to adhere to government regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain programs related to HACCP, PCQI, SOP, GMP, and SSOP.
- Ensure finished products meet customer specifications and labeling requirements.
- Report product issues and audit findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Engage with customers and their representatives for product demonstrations, facility tours, and audits.
- Conduct visits to customer sites for initial product runs and to address quality-related complaints.
- Monitor microbiological results and conduct bacterial swabs, generating environmental shelf-life graphs.
- Lead research and development initiatives.
- Implement and uphold food safety and quality programs while managing and training FSQA Supervisors and Technicians.
- Facilitate the Food Safety and Foreign Material teams within the facility.
- Complete necessary internal, regulatory, and customer audits.
- Manage Hold Release inventories using SAP.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree or higher in food safety, animal science, natural science, or a related technical field, or equivalent job experience.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years in the industry, with a strong understanding of regulatory, production, and manufacturing concepts. Experience with FDA and USDA regulated products is preferred. Familiarity with SAP is a plus.
Computer Skills: Proficient in standard computer applications, including spreadsheet generation and template development for management use.
Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all organizational levels.
Special Skills: Strong problem identification and resolution skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating with various departments and acting as the liaison to regulatory bodies. HACCP, SQF, and PCQI certifications are preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee staffing and attendance within the FSQA department.
Travel Requirements: This role involves travel between facilities as necessary, with potential additional travel up to five times per year.
