Job Summary

Aveanna Healthcare is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to provide school nursing services in an effort to promote prevention, medical management, and academics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct school nursing services to students in an effort to promote health and wellness.
  • Assess and evaluate the health and developmental status of students to make informed nursing diagnoses and establish priorities for action.
  • Interpret health and developmental status to school personnel, parents, and students as appropriate.
  • Serve as a health resource person in the health instruction curriculum and take leadership in planning and implementing health education programs.
  • Provide parent education related to student needs and participate in the development of Health Plans.
  • Attend continuing education programs as per licensure requirements and participate in Aveanna in-servicing and training as offered.
  • Exhibit behavior supporting and promoting students' rights and overall well-being.
  • Follow Aveanna and school board policies and procedures that affect the health, safety, and well-being of students in the school health setting.
  • Recognize and report signs of substance abuse, physical abuse, or neglect.
  • Provide a clean and safe environment within the school, including the safe use of equipment.
  • Maintain and coordinate standards of nursing while managing a comprehensive school health program.
  • Provide preventive and rehabilitative measures while assisting/providing nursing assessments and screenings in an effort to promote safety and health for all.
  • Perform treatments and/or procedures with skill and competence.
  • Administer medication as per MD order and/or parental consent.
  • Provide individual teaching and training with students and/or others in an effort to encourage and promote student independence when applicable.
  • Collaborate, coordinate, and supervise services with others in order to promote academics and individualized student needs.
  • Accurately document services provided in accordance with agency policies and procedures on the day the services are rendered.
  • Submit nursing documentation, logs, reports, and timesheets within a timely manner and per policy.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
  • Current, unrestricted state license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessments, documentation, and compliance with nursing care and policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pediatrics experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting.
  • Must be able to sit and climb stairs.
  • Must have visual and hearing acuity.
  • Must have a strong sense of smell and touch.
  • Must be able to sufficiently reposition patients and move equipment without assistance.
  • Must be able to appropriately respond physically and mentally to emergency situations in the home or during transport.
Environment
  • Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other various conditions.
  • Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases.
