Job Description
The Lead Toddler Teacher will oversee the classroom team at our NAEYC-accredited Childcare Program. This role involves creating and implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans, providing guidance and feedback to Assistant Teachers, and promoting positive relationships among children, families, and staff. Key responsibilities include:
  • Partnering with Assistant Teachers to design and execute engaging educational activities.
  • Working closely with the Site Director to ensure discipline and performance reviews are conducted fairly and effectively.
  • Completing developmental screenings according to Early Head Start timelines.
  • Providing primary care for four children in the classroom.
  • Fostering a welcoming environment for children and parents, developing strong relationships.
  • Promoting recognition, acceptance, and positive interactions among children, families, and staff.
  • Utilizing active supervision techniques to ensure children's safety at all times.
  • Serving as an ambassador for the Erie Neighborhood House Child Care program.
  • Participating in recruitment efforts for children and families.
  • Assuming directorial duties as assigned.
  • Opening and closing the classroom as required.
  • Remaining on site to supervise late-picked-up children as needed.
  • Entering child observations into My Teaching Strategies weekly.
  • Completing My Teaching Strategies checkpoints according to education timelines.
  • Conducting two home visits per child annually.
  • Attending parent-teacher conferences according to education timelines.
  • Meting with Assistant Teachers monthly for supervision and support.
  • Discussing family strengths and needs with Family Advocates quarterly.
  • Participating in transition meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance with Early Head Start performance standards.
  • Maintaining current Illinois Gateways Registry membership.
  • Completing five hours of Gateways-approved training annually.
  • Engaging in 20 hours of professional development training annually.
  • Ensuring adherence to Erie, Board of Education, and state licensing requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you must have:
  • A degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE).
  • A Level 4 Gateway Credential by 2024.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in a nursery or licensed daycare setting.
  • The ability to sit on the floor for extended periods.
  • Bilingual/bicultural Spanish skills preferred.
  • The capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical constraints requiring the ability to lift and evacuate children during emergencies.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, direction-following, and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • A genuine interest in working with children and knowledge of their growth and development.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
