Program Overview
Hennepin Healthcare offers a comprehensive Emergency Medicine Postgraduate Training Program for Physician Assistants. This program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with various health conditions, adhering to established departmental guidelines.
Intensive Training
This rigorous 13-month program combines didactic education with clinical training in emergency medicine, preparing graduates for a successful career as competent emergency medicine physician assistants. Participants will work alongside experienced Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and physician residents under the guidance of our emergency medicine faculty.
Specialty Rotations
During the program, participants will engage in off-service rotations to gain valuable experience in specialties relevant to emergency medicine. They will also take part in monthly hands-on skills sessions and simulation case scenarios to enhance their practical knowledge.
Certifications
Upon completion of the program, participants will obtain certifications in ACLS, PALS, and ATLS, further enhancing their qualifications.
Benefits and Opportunities

Responsibilities
Participants will be responsible for:
1. Delivering direct primary and acute care services to both adult and pediatric patients in the Emergency Department.
2. Conducting thorough assessments of patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial conditions.
3. Documenting observations, interventions, and care plans accurately and promptly.
4. Developing comprehensive care plans based on individual patient needs.
5. Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments as necessary.
Qualifications
To qualify for this program, candidates must possess:
- A Master's degree from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program.
- A valid license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Minnesota.
- National PA certification from the NCCPA.
- DEA certification.
