Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient's general condition and take vital signs and weight
  • Work in the clinic alongside Medical Assistant staff and follow all responsibilities outlined in the Medical Assistant job description
  • Perform urology specific procedures under the order and supervision of a licensed healthcare practitioner
  • Educate patient/family about diagnostic procedures, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness
  • Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination
  • Maintains/reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information
  • Records tests and examination results in patient's chart
  • Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions
  • Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials
  • Ensures cleanliness and prepares list of medical supplies needed
  • Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients
  • Restock lab area daily, including all drawers and treatment trays
  • Maintain inventory of medications and medical supplies
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Schedule referrals, procedures, and tests
Requirements
  • State-licensed vocational nurse
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
  • Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions
  • Understanding of documentation standards
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment
  • Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening
  • Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality
  • Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records
  • Knowledge of management and organizational theory to supervise the business practices including principles of employee development to train, delegate, and mentor staff
Skills and Abilities
  • Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques
  • Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace, and confidentiality methods
  • Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff

Physical and Mental Demands

The LVN position requires varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment. Occasionally lifting and carrying files up to 50 pounds. May require working under stressful conditions.

Environmental/Working Conditions

The normal office and exam room environment may expose the LVN to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
