Marine Camp Program Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County Marine Program is in search of a Seasonal Program Assistant to offer part-time assistance for the Sea Explorers Marine Camp and support daily operations at the Sport Fishing Education Center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with marine camp operations, including preparation and cleanup of crafts and activities, maintaining cleanliness of facilities, organizing camp supplies, and aiding in the transportation of equipment to the beach.
- Support camper supervision during activities both on and off the waterfront.
- Conduct on-site cleaning and maintenance of aquaria, ensuring the tank room and classroom are well-kept.
- Collaborate with counselors in delivering lessons, crafts, games, and various activities.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent GED, along with a minimum of 6 months of relevant volunteer or work experience.
- Capability to work outdoors and engage in various field activities.
- Comfortable working with and handling live marine animals and reptiles.
- Strong ability to comprehend and execute both written and verbal instructions.
- Dependable and capable of working independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Physical ability to lift 20-30 lbs. without assistance.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and personal vehicle for transportation, with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience.
- Adherence to all safety and workplace policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in volunteering or working with children and in scientific environments.
- Genuine interest in marine science, environmental studies, or related life sciences.
Compensation:
Hourly wage of $16.
