About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Specialist to join our team at NYU Langone Health. As an MRI Specialist, you will be responsible for performing medically prescribed MRI procedures of designated anatomical areas, under the general direction of the radiologist and supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use hospital and radiology information systems to manage patient information and radiology procedures.
  • Access patient information, including appointment times, exam types, and patient reports, in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Document begin, complete, and departure times in the RIS, as per departmental policy.
  • Utilize film library functions and HIS to access patient data for verification of orders.
  • Schedule exams in RIS from the order entry queue and modify exams when necessary.
  • Maintain department log books and record machine performance data as directed.
  • Administer IV contrast media and explain the procedure and process to patients.
  • Ensure contrast media questionnaires are completed by patients and assess existing intravenous lines or select venipuncture sites.
  • Load and program contrast media power injectors according to established procedures and assign injection rates based on access and protocol.
  • Monitor patients for signs of contrast media reaction and/or evidence of extravasation and notify radiologists or LIPs as necessary.
  • Perform visual and manual quality control checks of MRI equipment and use imaging and peripheral equipment safely and productively.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment and notify appropriate personnel in case of missing or damaged equipment.
  • Implement patient procedures independently, following departmental protocols and standards.
  • Explain procedures and equipment to patients clearly, obtain formal consent when necessary, and provide patient comfort before, during, and after procedures.
  • Provide patient privacy at all times and position patients and MRI equipment appropriately for imaging.
  • Use identifying markers and follow accepted MRI procedures, reviewing patient information sheets and considering various protocols and rationales for positioning and technique.
  • Solve problems that arise during patient examinations using technical knowledge and innovation.
  • Confer with other technologists and assist physicians as needed during procedures.
  • Perform transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS and generate high-quality hard copies of images when necessary.
  • Use efficient methods to complete examinations assigned in a reasonable amount of time and maintain cleanliness of radiographic areas.
  • Able to recognize medical emergencies and notify nurses, PAs, and/or MDs immediately.
  • Effectively assess patient information and status, planning appropriate procedures accordingly.
  • Use standard procedures to identify patients and check wristbands by name, unit, and room number to ensure patient IDs match examination requisitions.
  • Call patients by last name, asking them to confirm their identity by stating their first name, and introduce yourself to patients.
  • Review patient requisitions and understand the type of exam required by each requisition, conferring with medical staff regarding clarification when necessary.
  • Seek information or ask for assistance from supervisors regarding difficult or questionable results.
  • Follow accepted radiologic procedures and use medical information to determine the type of protocol required for radiographic examinations.
  • Consult policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols.
  • Recognize the need for and follow isolation precautions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Intravenous Contrast Administration Certification in New York State
  • ARRT Certification/Registration - MRI
  • BLS Certification
