Overview:

POSITION SUMMARY:


Accountable for the operation of various heavy machinery, including but not limited to front end loaders (4CY or greater), motor graders, excavators (20 ton class or larger), bulldozers, scrapers, tractor-pans, track hoes, skid pans, trenchers, and relevant light and medium equipment to execute construction tasks such as land clearing, mass excavation, pond/reservoir excavation, rough grading/finish grading of roadways, and underground utility work for diverse heavy civil, industrial, and renewable energy projects.


Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Adhere to and promote all company and safety protocols and procedures.

Operate heavy machinery with a thorough understanding of equipment functions, navigation, problem detection, mechanical skills, and driving.

May level and/or excavate land surfaces using various construction equipment mentioned above.

Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over work areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth or terrain.

Collect and load dirt, stone, equipment, materials, and waste products from the job site onto trucks using different machinery.

Capable of excavating trenches with proper slopes in compliance with safety regulations.

Coordinate machine operations with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.

Must effectively communicate, listen, and comprehend information through spoken words and sentences to ensure full understanding of job responsibilities, safety protocols, and other situations requiring immediate attention.

Perform maintenance tasks such as cleaning, greasing, and oiling machines; complete daily maintenance reports.

May be required to travel to various job sites on short notice.

This position may involve performing additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Foreman, which may not be explicitly mentioned and may change over time.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1-3 years of relevant experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of 1 year of experience in a heavy equipment operation role.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Familiarity with health and safety programs and project-specific regulations.

Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.

Exemplify safe behavior as a personal standard.

Read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Perform basic arithmetic operations and understand measurements of weight and volume.

Exhibit common sense to follow instructions provided in written or oral form.

Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and adhere to established procedures and guidelines.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work up to a 12-hour shift performing physically demanding tasks in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.


Must maintain physical strength and stamina; utilize arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to complete job tasks.

Ability to perform these tasks repetitively and continuously for several hours.

Environmental Conditions:
Constant changes in weather and site conditions.


This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.


Wearing personal protective equipment is mandatory (including but not limited to safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, vests, etc.).

Ability to navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.


May require working at heights and must comply with all safety and fall-protection regulations; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.


Assess information based on measurable standards; discern details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.

Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.

Maintain good balance and work at heights.

Possess good vision (either naturally or with correction).

Possess good hearing (either naturally or with correction).

Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet effectively.
