Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Work Environment:

  • Comfortable working at heights.

  • Capability to operate in environments that may pose hazards to individuals unable to perceive fast-moving equipment.

Note: This is a union position, and all wages are determined according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Journeyman Crane Mechanic plays a vital role in the routine inspection, upkeep, repairs, and refurbishments of lifting equipment and cranes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage AC/DC converters.
  • Handle VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) across various equipment manufacturers.
  • Work with programmable logic controllers.
  • Conduct industrial control maintenance and troubleshooting for both low and high voltage systems.
  • Maintain, test, and repair low to high voltage electrical equipment, including circuits, transformers, high voltage switches, and motor control centers.
  • Perform maintenance on diesel engines (Cummins Hybrid), including troubleshooting and repair of CAN bus systems.
  • Oversee hydraulic systems.
  • Interpret and assist in designing electrical and electronic schematics, mechanical and instrumentation drawings, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings to ensure compliance with regulations and vendor specifications.
  • Conduct on-site troubleshooting for electrical, mechanical, structural, and electronic issues to identify causes of equipment malfunctions and establish necessary repairs using visual inspections and appropriate testing equipment.
  • May perform welding and fabrication tasks (3G and 4G).
  • Ensure machinery and mechanical equipment are operational by completing preventive maintenance and repairs according to manufacturer recommendations, ensuring safety and compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Analyze and diagnose potential malfunctions, defects, damage, or excessive wear.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical equipment and subassemblies.
  • Regularly test overhauled equipment to confirm efficient operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as safety toe boots, hard hats, ear protection, and safety glasses when necessary.
  • Uphold company values, rules, policies, and procedures to fulfill the company mission while fostering productive relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management or supervisors.
