About the Role:

HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland is seeking a talented Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in Effingham, IL. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine tests and providing data to physicians and healthcare providers for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine tests in the medical laboratory using biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers.
  • Study samples obtained from patients and provide data to physicians and healthcare providers.
  • Work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines.
  • Problem-solve and troubleshoot issues while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Requirements:

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics.
  • Successful completion of a National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) program.
  • OR Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification and a Bachelor's degree with 2 years full-time lab experience in an accredited lab.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician: Associate's degree required with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited medical laboratory technician program, or Associate's degree with at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and successful completion of a 50-week US military medical laboratory training course, or Associate's degree with at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and 3 years full-time lab experience in an accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.
  • Medical Technician or Medical Laboratory Technician or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), American Medical Technologies (AMT), Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW), or other laboratory certifying agency.
