Key Responsibilities- Utilize the nursing process to deliver and manage patient care from admission to discharge, taking into account the patient's developmental age and cultural diversity.
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments according to nursing standards.
- Develop and coordinate individual plans of care, including discharge planning and teaching.
- Direct, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care within assigned clinical settings.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level.
- Document patient care according to nursing standards.
- Develop, implement, and document educational plans for patients, families, and significant others.
- Ensure continuity of care through collaboration with other healthcare providers.
- Comply with legal and ethical aspects of patient care.
- Assume responsibility for professional growth, including assuming a resource and preceptor role when appropriate, and serving as a role model in an area of specialty.
- Maintain a safe environment.
- Administer medications, perform treatments and therapies, and operate equipment according to policy and procedure.
- Assist physicians with treatment and procedures, and special tests as required or directed.
- Participate in and support Nursing Governance activities.
- Differentiate and manage care for patients with acute and chronic pain.
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting a positive work environment through positive work relations and effective communication.
- Currently registered by the Board of Registration in Nursing for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- BLS is a requirement for every RN unless an advanced certification is current (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP). In addition, unit-specific certification and competencies are defined in the Unit Profile.
- BSN.
- GI certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills are required to gather information, build relationships that support collaborative work in the department and across the organization, while providing exceptional service to patients.
