Position Summary
The Emergency Room Technician and Unit Secretary plays a crucial role in supporting patient care by facilitating assessment and data collection efficiently and accurately.
Position Requirements
Education and Training:
- Preferred: EMT certification or a minimum of one year of experience in patient care.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification is required within one year of employment and must be renewed bi-annually.
Work Experience:
Experience in Emergency Patient Care Delivery is essential.

- Electronic Thermometers
- Pneumatic Tube System
- Telemetry Systems
- Nurse Call Systems

Physical Environment:
The role is based in the Emergency Department, catering to a diverse patient demographic ranging from infants to seniors.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Capability to stand or work for extended periods, up to twelve hours.
- Able to lift weights of up to 250 lbs with assistance.
Performance Standards:
- Assist in data collection and patient care by identifying and reporting needs, performing interventions as directed by nursing staff.
- Provide emotional and psychosocial support to patients and their families.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure timely delivery of patient care.
- Assist with treatments and procedures, adhering to established policies and demonstrating competency.
- Organize tasks and responsibilities effectively.
- Document all activities accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain a therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Facilitate staff development and demonstrate responsibility for assigned communications.
- Utilize supplies judiciously to support cost containment.
- Handle and transport medications and solutions safely, following hospital policies.
