Laser Applications Specialist

Job Summary
The Laser Applications Specialist will be responsible for driving the development and optimization of key product functionalities and processes. This role demands a hands-on approach to innovation and the ability to lead efforts to deploy new Laser technology applications to customers and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop core competencies in 2-3 areas of Laser application processes and various lab equipment.
- Test, validate, and deploy new component-level products such as lasers, scanners, and solutions for customers.
- Utilize a broad range of lab equipment and applying process characterization methods.
- Independently handle increasingly complex customer projects.
- Mentor and support interns and new engineers on the team.
- Engage in projects within similar process domains to foster growth and work towards becoming a subject matter expert.
- Crosstrain in other process technologies to build a deeper understanding of secondary technologies or processes.
- Support light travel for trade shows, including setting up equipment and demonstrating technology to customers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Material Science Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in the laser industry: 3 of the 5 years with CW fiber lasers, pulsed lasers, welding heads, 2D scanner process heads, CNC automated systems, and industrial robot programming.
- Ability to create basic Design of Experiments (DOE) to identify process windows and limits.
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as Autocad / Solidworks.
- Proficient at designing simple fixtures and coordinating their fabrication.
- Proficient in operating equipment and running cells independently.
- Ability to write detailed process and work function documents related to laser processes and lab equipment.
- Familiarity with laboratory test instruments, including oscilloscopes, cameras, sensors, and function generators.
- Knowledgeable in basic metallurgy.
- Proven ability to support multiple projects and results-oriented.
- Highly motivated and hands-on, with consistent ability to follow-through on projects.
- Superior English language communications skills - written and verbal.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization and external customers.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lasers/Optical Design and Assembly, Laser Micromachining, Material Science, Metallurgy.
Physical Requirements:
- Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
- Physical effort/lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Travel requirements less than 10%.
