SUBSTITUTE TEACHER ROLE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate; or
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher (GPA is not a factor); or
  • A minimum of 64 semester hours with a 2.5 GPA or a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of completed coursework, including undergraduate and/or graduate studies.
  • Demonstrated capability to effectively engage and communicate with students and staff.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB OBJECTIVE: To facilitate each student's educational journey as seamlessly and thoroughly as possible in the absence of their regular instructor.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Check in with the principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school.
  • Review all plans and schedules designated for the teaching day.
  • Maintain established routines and procedures within the school and classroom environment.
  • Adhere to the lesson outlined in the lesson plan or plan book.
  • Take responsibility for managing student behavior.
  • Document the day's activities at the end of each teaching day.
  • Comply with all policies, rules, and procedures applicable to teachers.
  • Operate and maintain classroom equipment.
  • Assist in supervising students during emergency drills, assemblies, and recreational periods.
  • Record and monitor student attendance.
  • Notify the regular teacher of any issues or special information regarding a student.
  • Uphold a high standard of ethical behavior and confidentiality concerning student information.
  • Monitor and report on school safety conditions to the building principal.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • As needed.
  • Daily assignments coordinated through the secretary, teacher, Aesop, or principal.
