Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Emergency Communications Dispatcher to join our team at the City of Sparks, NV. As a key member of our public safety team, you will be responsible for receiving and evaluating emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police and fire units, and providing critical support to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and evaluate emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and dispatch police and fire units as needed
  • Operate complex radio and telephone systems to communicate with police and fire units, as well as other emergency services
  • Provide critical support to our community by answering questions, providing information, and dispatching units as needed
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple calls and situations simultaneously
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of local geography, including major buildings, streets, and businesses
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field, or one year of experience in a fast-paced dispatch or closely related work setting
  • Valid typing certificate demonstrating the ability to accurately type 45 net words per minute
  • NCIC/NCJIS certification within six months of hire and maintenance throughout employment
  • EFD certification within six months of hire and maintenance throughout employment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and communicate tactfully and effectively with the public and public safety personnel
