POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist in the preparation and serving of meals while ensuring the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the Senior Center.
Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Act as a representative of the City of Mesquite, showcasing a positive demeanor and proactive actions through professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate discretion in all interactions with colleagues and the public.
  2. Support in the preparation and serving of meals for senior citizens.
  3. Prepare meals for homebound seniors at scheduled times.
  4. Assist and/or supervise various programs and activities in arts and crafts, promoting community and neighborhood recreation events.
  5. Maintain simple written records related to assigned programs or facilities.
  6. Help enforce Senior Center policies among patrons.
  7. Ensure the daily cleanliness of the Senior Center by maintaining work areas, including daily cleaning of floors, stove tops, and ovens, weekly cleaning of refrigerators and walk-ins, and performing light maintenance and custodial tasks such as lifting, sweeping, waste disposal, vacuuming, and window washing.
  8. Exhibit reliability and meet attendance standards consistently.
  9. Adhere to all relevant safety regulations and guidelines.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. May be required to serve as a Transportation Driver, delivering meals to homebound seniors who are disabled, maintaining records of passenger safety, meal temperatures, and conducting vehicle inspections; ensure confidentiality of clients served.
  2. Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform the essential functions of this position include:
Knowledge of:
  • Food service facilities, equipment, operations, and program services.
  • Kitchen safety practices and procedures.
  • Nutrition and social needs of older adults.
  • Relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Health and safety protocols.
  • Effective communication techniques.
Ability to:
  • Read, write, and communicate in English at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with individuals encountered during work.
  • Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. A typical way to acquire the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: Preferred experience in meal preparation.
Training: Current standard First Aid and CPR Certification, or ability to obtain within six months.
License or Certificate: Must possess a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license and a current Clark County Health District Food Handler Health Card at the time of employment and throughout employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is conducted in an office or outdoor environment with physical exertion required due to frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, sitting, climbing, twisting, or standing for extended periods; general manual dexterity is necessary.
  • Travel to off-site facilities may be required.
  • Work a flexible schedule based on program needs, including evenings, weekends, and shifting assignments.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies; lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
