Lead Wildlife Biologist

About the Role:
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a qualified Lead Wildlife Biologist to join our dynamic team. This role presents an excellent opportunity for career advancement within our growing environmental consultancy. The position is permanent and full-time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the project manager and technical authority on various wildlife biology and natural resource initiatives. Responsibilities include overseeing budgets, timelines, service quality, and ensuring staff safety.
- Collaborate with the accounting department to assess invoices, expenditures, and conduct project audits.
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior biologists and field personnel.
- Lead and conduct diverse natural resource studies, including assessments for threatened and endangered species, environmental evaluations, and biological documentation.
- Organize, review, and manage field data, and author technical reports and permit applications while providing expert review on compliance with relevant environmental regulations.
- Prepare and ensure quality control of reports and permit documents for various renewable energy projects.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to fulfill biological resource management tasks.
- Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills independently.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Engage with other resource scientists and planners on natural and cultural resource projects across the organization.
- Implement and uphold SWCA's safety protocols and professional ethics standards.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
- At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in natural resource consulting.
- A minimum of three years of project management experience in natural resources, including multi-disciplinary project oversight and client relationship management.
- Experience in business development and expanding services for existing clients.
- Proficiency in developing scopes of work and budgets.
- Experience across various industries such as wind, solar, oil and gas, and transmission is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to pass a motor vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in supervising and mentoring other professionals.
- Professional certifications such as PMP and Certified Wildlife Biologist.
- Familiarity with permitting and compliance for utility and energy-related projects.
- Experience in project planning and impact mitigation strategy development.
