This is a part-time role (up to 25 hours weekly) with occasional evening and weekend hours, partially funded by grants.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: The individual will oversee the daily operations and organization of the Automotive Laboratory. This includes performing mechanical and technical tasks related to the setup, disassembly, and upkeep of laboratory equipment essential for instructional purposes, while also aiding faculty in both lab and classroom settings. The position reports directly to the Chair of the Industry and Transportation Department.
KEY DUTIES:
- Facilitates training and effective utilization of automotive tools and equipment by students and faculty within the lab environment.
- Provides support to students during learning activities involving lab equipment; adjusts training scenarios as necessary to enhance student engagement and understanding.
- Assists instructors in preparing and executing educational activities in the lab by organizing available training resources.
- Collaborates with faculty to monitor student progress through the curriculum; conducts evaluations and assessments of student projects with minimal oversight from program instructors.
- Conducts testing, cleaning, and routine maintenance of lab equipment; aids in the setup and breakdown of class demonstrations and training sessions.
- Offers technical assistance to students and faculty, overseeing the use of all automotive equipment in the lab; troubleshoots technical challenges and communicates equipment needs to the Department Chair as required.
- Supports the Department Chair in maintaining compliance with ASE Accreditation, including record-keeping and documentation updates.
- Educates on and enforces lab safety protocols; ensures a clean and functional facility to foster an optimal learning atmosphere.
- Maintains inventory and ensures equipment functionality as per manufacturer guidelines; participates in necessary technical training for equipment.
- Adheres to all institutional, state, and federal regulations and policies.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited college or technical institute with a focus on Vocational/Technical Education, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
Experience: A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in automotive operations or a closely related area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with automotive shop operations and knowledge of the proper use of tools and equipment utilized in automotive repairs.
Licensure/Certifications: A valid driver's license or access to transportation for statewide travel.
DESIRED WORK TRAITS: Strong understanding of laboratory technology procedures and practices in the automotive sector. Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment, particularly automotive shop tools, and skilled in applying techniques for conducting analyses with complex machining equipment. Ability to adhere to standard laboratory methods and procedures.
