Job Summary: Collaborate with radiation oncologists to deliver radiation treatments to patients as prescribed and obtain localization images according to planned treatment delivery. Provide supervision and training to students during clinical rotations, utilizing effective communication techniques to explain treatment-related procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and train students during clinical rotations, focusing on effective communication and patient care.
- Deliver radiation treatments as prescribed, obtaining localization images according to planned treatment delivery.
- Monitor patients for expected and unexpected reactions to treatments, reporting observations to relevant staff members.
- Maintain a safe and organized treatment environment, adhering to departmental procedures.
- Perform treatment, simulation, and fabrication of immobilization devices and shielding, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy procedures as needed.
- Collect and document data acquired during simulation procedures, accurately inputting treatment-related information.
- Maintain patient safety through consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration.
- Recognize deviations from prescribed treatment delivery and report them to the Chief Therapist/Physicist.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of treatment records, maintaining quality standards.
- Participate in required training programs to maintain ARRT certification.
- Adhere to system-wide competencies and behaviors.
- Participate in accurate and complete charge capture activities.
- Notify site leadership of supply needs.
- Maintain travel expenses according to policy.
- Utilize UPMC Cancer Centers resources efficiently.
Requirements:
- Complete a formal radiation therapy technology program in a JRCERT-accredited institution.
- Hold ARRT registration in good standing or be board eligible within six months of hire.
- Maintain 24 CEUs per biennium for ARRT certification and licensure.
- Obtain CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
- Possess ARRT certification.
- Hold Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Meet Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting requirements.
- Comply with Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance requirements.
