Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in Northern California

Job Responsibilities:

  • Round daily on all well babies and infants as needed.
  • Provide consultation to the Emergency Department.
  • Document using Cerner EMR.
  • Work day shifts from 7AM to 5PM and night shifts from 5PM to 7AM.
  • Be available for call from home.
  • Expect to be called in for a delivery once every other or third night on call.

Details:

  • Work in a Level III NICU.
  • Share high-risk deliveries over 35 weeks with neonatologists.
  • Be available within 30 minutes for high-risk deliveries.
  • Deliver comprehensive H&P on new infants and discharge exams on infants to be discharged.
  • Occasionally perform circumcisions.

Community:

  • Located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Commutable from Sacramento or San Francisco.
  • Easily accessible to major highways such as I80 and I680.

Requirements:

  • Completion of NRP course and facility in all NRP procedures.

Additional Information:

  • Avg daily census of 11.
  • Hospitalist rounds on each patient daily.
  • Typical time to round is 6 hours.
  • Infant patients are most readmitted for hyperbilirubinemia and weight gain issues.
  • Infants requiring subspecialty care are typically referred to UCSF Benioff Children's in Oakland.
  • Pediatric cardiology and genetics consultation are available on site.
  • Admissions average less than 1 per month.
  • ED physicians may call for consultation on differential diagnosis, lab tests, and outpatient management.
  • Onsite consultation may be required.
