Registered Nurse - Early Childhood Campus (PreK-1st)

Primary Objective:
Implement the health services program to effectively address the needs of the student population within the designated campus. Deliver health services to students while promoting health education and preventive practices.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Graduate from an accredited nursing education program
Valid RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing
Current AED and CPR certifications

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Understanding of health assessments to identify student health issues
Ability to execute policies and procedures
Knowledge of basic first aid
Proficient in keyboarding and file management
Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:
Minimum of 3 years in nursing

Key Responsibilities:

Nursing Services: Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) in accordance with established health protocols.

Offer health counseling and instruction to students.
Evaluate student health issues, communicate with parents, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow-ups as necessary. Act as a liaison among school personnel, families, healthcare professionals, and the community.
Notify parents regarding accidents or illnesses and secure emergency medical care when required.

Develop and implement IHPs, evaluating the outcomes of nursing care for medically fragile students to ensure their safe integration into the school environment.

Advocate for student health needs.
Ensure medication administration aligns with district policies.
Establish effective procedures for mandatory health screenings.
Conduct home visits to address student health concerns as needed.
Travel to various campuses to provide care as necessary.

Instruction: Contribute to the development of campus health education curriculum, educating faculty and staff on health-related topics, and providing health education to individuals and groups, including communication with parents and the local community regarding health issues.

Consultation: Collaborate closely with campus leadership and staff to foster a healthy school environment, addressing the health needs of the general student population and those with identified health conditions.

Participate in meetings for students with health needs and develop IHPs.

Work with district personnel on IEP goals and services.
Advise campus administration during crises or emergencies and assist in the assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.

Administration: Collaborate with the health services coordinator to evaluate and enhance the campus health program based on findings.

Develop and recommend policies to promote student and staff health and wellness.

Supervise and train LVNs and other personnel responsible for assisting students with health needs.

Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization and treatment records.

Order necessary supplies and equipment for clinic inventory.

Adhere to federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health regulations, and district policies.

Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal.
Assist with summer school coverage as needed.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Other duties as assigned.

Professional Development: Maintain nursing skills and knowledge as required by the Texas Nurse Practice Act and the Texas Board of Nursing, including certification for mandated screenings and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (CPR/AED).

Frequent walking, grasping, and wrist movements.
Lifting:
Frequent light lifting (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and assisting students with physical disabilities.
Environment:
Exposure to biological hazards and communicable diseases.
Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
