Transit Bus Operator

As a Transit Bus Operator, you will serve as a vital representative of the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). Your primary focus will be on ensuring safety and delivering exceptional customer service. UTA is committed to finding dedicated individuals for this essential role, and we provide comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary skills to operate passenger buses effectively while maintaining safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct standard pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Communicate effectively with the dispatch center, customers, and supervisors.
- Address inquiries from passengers and provide assistance as needed.
- Collect passenger fares and adhere to UTA guidelines and operational procedures.
- Maintain punctuality and reliability in reporting for assigned shifts.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of UTA's paid Bus Operator Training/Certification Program, including passing all required examinations.
- One year of experience in a customer service role with problem-solving capabilities.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with no more than two moving violations in the past three years.
- No convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs within the last ten years.
- Familiarity with the Wasatch Front area is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card (cost covered by UTA).
- Pass the written Class B CDL test, including Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement tests prior to the start of the paid training program.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with supervisors and customers, both verbally and via radio.
- Read and comprehend training materials, operating manuals, and safety directives.
- Prepare clear and concise written reports regarding incidents and accidents.
- Safely operate all types of passenger buses.
- Meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting, carrying, and prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
Compensation:
The starting pay rate is $20.00 per hour during training for up to nine weeks, increasing to $21.44 per hour after training, with guaranteed pay increases every six months for the next five years, reaching up to $25.69 per hour.
