Job Summary

As a Histotechnologist in the Histology laboratory at the University of California, you will play a crucial role in the preparation and processing of tissue samples for diagnostic purposes. Under the supervision of senior-level technologists, lead technologists, and the Histology Supervisor, you will be responsible for tissue processing, embedding, paraffin sectioning, H&E staining, special staining, specimen receipt and accessioning, laboratory information system operation, quality assurance record keeping, instrument maintenance, and other technical duties as assigned. You will also be required to rotate weekly between workstations within the lab and work variable schedules, including weekends and holidays.

The salary range for this position is $49.97 - $62.25 per hour, and the final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range will be dependent on your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

Required qualifications include an associate degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry, and one year of experience as a histotechnologist, preferably in a high-volume hospital histology laboratory within the last five years. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also required.

Preferred qualifications include one to two years' experience as a histotechnologist and ASCP certification: HT or HTL licensed strongly preferred.
