Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our team at the City of West Fargo, ND. The successful candidate will assist in creating, maintaining, and analyzing data in our relational database management system, as well as effectively conveying data to our intended audience through maps, web applications, and other visualizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret plat maps, legal descriptions, surveys, and other official sources to update and maintain our GIS databases.
  • Assure the integrity, security, and effective performance of our GIS Program database(s).
  • Generate ad-hoc and custom maps, disaster assessment reports, and other visualizations as requested by City departmental staff and the general public.
  • Assist in City-wide training to further the knowledge base of spatial information and appropriate outputs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on GIS, analyzing problems and recommending solutions to meet standards and guidelines.
  • Maintain City-wide datasets, compile geographic data from various sources, and update databases.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure data integrity and maintain control points used for registering geographic data.
  • Support the relationship between the City and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior.
  • Assist in administering ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, and other GIS platforms.
  • Publish web services for use in public and internal web applications, mobile data collection, and emergency services data analysis.
  • Update the City's authoritative infrastructure, addressing, and utility network datasets based on various sources.
  • Research industry standards and implement best practices for special assignments.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and City information.
  • Work safely and follow safe work practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of professional GIS experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles of cartography, ArcGIS Pro software, and ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience in database management, including editing and analysis techniques.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage project timelines.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within local government or similar agency.
  • Skills in Microsoft SQL Server or ArcGIS resources such as Enterprise, Experience Builder, Survey 123, Parcel Fabric, Field Maps, Insights, Dashboards, and Hub.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or Arcade.
