Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician I to join our team at the City of Alexandria, LA. As an Engineering Technician I, you will be responsible for performing technical engineering tasks to collect and review construction plans, gather field data and field notes, and obtain other necessary information to draft preliminary layout of existing and new utilities and ensure correct location of utility lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Locate utility lines and valves; assist in staking out lines and service extensions and/or minor service extensions.
  • Collect field information for files.
  • Obtain and review construction plans with consultants.
  • Interact, communicate, and coordinate work with contractors.
  • Review National Joint Utility Notification System Tickets (NJUNS).
  • Review and compare working drawings with finished construction.
  • Receive and review various plans, prints, drawings, and related documents to include subdivision maps, address assignments, extension maps, work orders, and purchase requisitions.
  • Update files and maintain related maps.
  • Maintain, update, and distribute required information to other departments, contractors, consultants, and supervisors.
  • Order, receive, and distribute tools; maintain records of distributed items; maintain related physical inventory.
  • Perform computer data entry to enter completed work orders in computer; maintain related hard files.
  • Operate a variety of office and computer equipment to include a scanner, printer, plotter, laminator, and related peripherals.
  • May serve on survey crew; clean and maintain survey instruments and tools.
  • Remain on twenty-four hour emergency call for power, gas, and water department in the event of a locate need.
Requirements

High school diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in Drafting, CAD, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Will be required to obtain and maintain specialized certifications and/or training as deemed necessary. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
