Company Overview

The City and County of San Francisco is dedicated to providing exceptional emergency services to its residents and visitors. Established in 1866, the San Francisco Fire Department has a long-standing history of bravery and commitment, responding to various emergencies and disasters throughout the years.

Position Overview

This role encompasses three distinct levels: Level I EMT, Level II Paramedic, and Level III Firefighter Paramedic. Depending on the classification, personnel may be tasked with various responsibilities, including:

Level I - EMT

Under general oversight, the EMT responds to medical emergencies, providing essential life support and care. Responsibilities include operating an ambulance, maintaining equipment, and administering first aid and basic life support in alignment with established protocols. EMTs are also responsible for safeguarding patient confidentiality in accordance with relevant regulations.

Level II - Paramedic

In addition to EMT duties, Paramedics deliver advanced medical care during emergencies. This includes assessing medical situations, coordinating with incident commanders, and implementing emergency treatment protocols. Paramedics are expected to participate in ongoing training and maintain physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
1. Age: Minimum of 19 years old at the time of application.
2. Education: High school diploma or equivalent certification.
3. Driving Record: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history.
4. Criminal Record: No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors.

Additional qualifications for Level I include possession of a valid CA EMT Certification and relevant work experience. For Level II, a valid CA Paramedic license and documented experience as a Paramedic are required.

Selection Process

Candidates will undergo a comprehensive selection process, including written examinations, skills assessments, and interviews to evaluate their qualifications and fit for the role. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list for potential hiring.
