Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Prosecutor to join our team at the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. As an Assistant District Attorney, you will play a critical role in upholding justice and ensuring public safety in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and Prosecute Cases: Conduct thorough investigations and prosecute felony and misdemeanor cases to ensure justice is served.
  • Intake and Review: Review reports and case files submitted by law enforcement, determine whether further investigation is needed, and research alternative or additional charges.
  • Evaluate and Research Defenses: Evaluate and research potential defenses to ensure the best possible outcome for the case.
  • Draft Accusations and Indictments: Draft accusations and indictments in accordance with the law and evidence.
  • Conduct Preliminary Hearings and Presentations: Conduct or assist with preliminary hearings and presentations to grand juries, analyzing facts and evidence, reviewing criminal histories, and determining appropriate charges.
  • Research and Locate Case Law: Conduct research and locate pertinent case law to ensure the best possible outcome for the case.
  • Work with the Trial Team: Work with the trial team, including investigators, victim advocates, and other District Attorneys, to conduct trial preparation, develop a trial plan and strategy, subpoena witnesses, and file motions.
  • Determine Sentence Recommendations: Determine appropriate sentence recommendations based on the evidence and the law.
  • Negotiate Pleas and Resolve Cases: Negotiate pleas and resolve cases in a fair and just manner.
  • Research and Respond to Motions: Research and respond to motions in a timely and effective manner.
Requirements
  • Experience: Must have 3-5 years of proven experience as an attorney.
  • Discipline and Results-Oriented: Must be disciplined and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bar Association Membership: Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or be in good standing of another state's bar association that is eligible for reciprocity admittance to the State Bar of Georgia.
