Job Overview

Position Title: Accounting & Budget Manager

Salary Range: $80,325 - $94,500

POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting & Budget Manager is responsible for coordinating and reviewing all financial operations, ensuring the timely preparation of accurate financial statements. This role oversees the billing and tracking of grants and contracts while preparing the annual budget for the Health Center. Additionally, this position supervises the Accounting and Grants Assistant and the Accounts Payable department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable and grants accounting.
  • Ensure the integrity of the general ledger by establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Review the chart of accounts for accuracy and make recommendations for expense allocations.
  • Prepare, verify, and control journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Maintain and evaluate accounting for all asset and liability accounts, including prepaid expenses and fixed assets.
  • Coordinate monthly closing processes and prepare financial statements to ensure timely reporting of activities.
  • Analyze and interpret accounting information to evaluate operating results in terms of profitability and performance against budget.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Assist in coordinating physical inventories and ensure accuracy.
  • Oversee billing processes for grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Supervise the Accounts Payable department.
  • Assist in preparing third-party cost reports, including Medicare and State reports.
  • Support the development of the annual budget for the Health Center and individual grants and contracts.
  • Assist the Controller and independent auditors during the annual year-end audit and other fiscal record audits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is required, along with a minimum of five years of experience in a managerial accounting role. Candidates should possess strong analytical and reasoning skills, be well-organized, and have a participative management style. The ability to work under pressure while maintaining confidentiality and adapting to change is essential. Proficiency in Excel is required, and familiarity with BlackBaud Financial Edge software is a plus.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This position is based in a busy community health center. Long hours may be necessary to meet deadlines, and flexibility for evening and weekend work is expected.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The role requires the ability to lift small equipment and boxes up to 20 pounds, with primarily sedentary work and some interoffice movement. Visual and auditory acuity is necessary for reading and communication.
