Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate for the Healthcare Economic Consultant role will possess the following qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of consulting experience within the healthcare sector, focusing on medical claims, membership, and provider data.
- Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Advanced skills in MS Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, linked worksheets, and reporting features.
- Experience in data mining, statistical analysis, and data manipulation.
- Demonstrated self-motivation and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze data and apply investigative skills to resolve issues.
- Experience managing multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Capability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
- Strong written communication skills for producing clear documentation.

Role Responsibilities
The Healthcare Economic Consultant will report to the SVP of Healthcare Economics & Analytics and will be responsible for:
- Leading the development and refinement of economic models, including cost-effectiveness and budget impact assessments.
- Writing SQL queries and generating user-friendly reports while applying various analytical methods to address specific business challenges.
- Providing consultative support to Medical Directors and Finance Leaders regarding trends and cost management.
- Extracting and validating data for measurement purposes.
- Identifying and analyzing key healthcare cost drivers across different market segments.
- Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the programs being evaluated.
- Utilizing critical thinking to anticipate stakeholder inquiries and consider all aspects of analyses.
- Assisting with client relations and participating in external meetings.
- Managing project timelines and deliverables, including presentations.
- Analyzing and presenting data related to medical trends, summarizing performance with appropriate analytics.
- Developing an in-depth understanding of business line concerns to explore and explain trends effectively.
- Creating and modifying complex models to enhance decision-making tools; conducting healthcare cost analyses to identify cost-control strategies.
- Projecting cost increases in medical services through advanced analytical techniques.
- Identifying opportunities for cost savings by analyzing practice patterns.
- Recommending policy and system changes to achieve cost efficiencies.
- Reviewing post-implementation results to ensure projected savings are realized.

Work Environment
This position requires on-site work in a standard office environment, featuring conditioned air and artificial lighting. Effective communication with customers, vendors, and colleagues is essential, including the ability to manage interactions with individuals who may be distressed. Regular use of telecommunication and email is necessary, and the role may involve prolonged periods of sitting. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs may be required, along with proficiency in using standard office equipment.
