Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Montefiore Medical Center. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing respiratory support to patients with cardiopulmonary abnormalities.

Responsibilities
  • Initiate, monitor, and adjust parameters on patients receiving high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV), and invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Obtain arterial blood gases as ordered by physicians.
  • Administer aerosolized medication therapy as prescribed by physicians.
  • Initiate, regulate, and monitor oxygen therapy as ordered by physicians and complete departmental and medical center records.
  • Respond to cardiopulmonary arrests and assist as needed, including performing endotracheal intubation.
  • Complete competency paperwork as per department policy.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety policies relating to respiratory care.
  • Inventories and stocks respiratory care equipment as specified for each assigned area and maintains these areas in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Administers care within the scope of the institution's patient care code of ethics.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan.
  • Performs education with new procedures or equipment to patients or family members.
  • Instructs and oversees Respiratory Therapy students on respiratory care policies and procedures, and assists in the evaluation of their performance.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds on patient care units.
  • Provides respiratory care as per department's service agreements.
  • Actively participates in the patient care plan process and makes appropriate recommendations to physicians and nursing staff for patients requiring respiratory care.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an AMA Respiratory Program or Certificate of completion from an AMA accredited program.
  • Current NYS Respiratory Therapist License.
  • CRT, RRT, or Registry Eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Current BLS by the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Pediatric/Neonatal experience preferred.
