Position Summary:
This position involves managing the cash register and electronic scanning equipment to accurately record and total customer purchases. The Cashier will also assist in packaging items for customers while ensuring a positive shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the cash register and electronic scanner to accurately process customer transactions, which may include a variety of products such as groceries, frozen items, dairy, produce, and meats.
  • Handle various payment methods, including cash, checks, credit cards, and coupons, in accordance with company policies.
  • Weigh and package customer purchases with care.
  • Understand and efficiently use checkout equipment, including registers, scanners, and scales.
  • Maintain the appearance of the checkout area, including merchandising items like newspapers and snacks.
  • Ensure accurate product identification and report any pricing discrepancies.
  • Stay informed about current store promotions and product locations to assist customers effectively.
  • Communicate store programs and promotions to customers while modeling excellent service standards.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding security and cash handling procedures.
  • Keep the checkout area clean and well-stocked, following safety and sanitation standards.
  • Assist with stocking items as needed.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and expectations for food handling.
  • May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer needs.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous retail or related experience is preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers.
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills; attention to detail is essential.
  • Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic are required.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this role include the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. The Cashier will be required to stand and walk for extended periods and may need to bend, stoop, twist, and turn regularly. The work environment is typical of a retail store, with exposure to varying temperatures and outside weather conditions. The noise level is generally low to moderate.
