Laser Machinist

The Laser Operator will be a key member of the GMP Friction Products team, working at our Gilchrist Road facility. This role is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities of the laser operations, ensuring efficient run rates and material utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform basic setup of the machine, including loading programs, selecting the correct cutting head, nozzle, and centering the beam.
• Maintain efficient run rates and material utilization.
• Unload and deburr parts using pneumatic die grinders with various attachments.
• Operate an electric angle grinder for deburring.
• Use a forklift to move materials from storage to the machine and unload/load trucks as needed.
• Filing out travelers with job-specific information.
• General upkeep of the shop and machine cleaning.
• Assist with shipping and receiving.
• Identify different types and thickness of materials.
• Have knowledge of gases used, how to replace parts, and set pressures.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience with micrometers and calipers.
• CAD and Trutops software experience is helpful.
• Minimum of one year in all areas of CNC laser operation.
• Experience in a precision machining environment is helpful.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, drawings.
• Forklift training.
• Carrying out instructions in written, oral, or diagram format.
