Job Summary

As a CRNA Anesthesiologist at CAMC Health System, you will administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care under the direction of a physician. You will monitor and support life functions, acting as the patient's advocate while under anesthesia.

Responsibilities
  • Administer or assist with all types of anesthesia.
  • Set up the operating room with anesthesia-related drugs and equipment prior to each procedure.
  • Inspect anesthesia machines and other equipment prior to each case to ensure proper working order.
  • Review patient preoperative examination findings, lab values, and consultative information to choose the best anesthetic in collaboration with the Anesthesiologist.
  • Maintain accurate anesthesia records.
  • Assist with airway maintenance expertise anywhere in the hospital.
  • Work with students and provide training as needed.
  • Integrate continuous quality improvement into department and institution operations, demonstrating a commitment to the process.
  • Support employee participation in continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Reinforce employee understanding of work integration with other departments throughout the institution.
  • Develop, implement, and document an Anesthesia Plan of Care prior to providing an anesthetic.
  • Perform patient assessments immediately prior to induction of anesthesia and document on the anesthesia record.
  • Supervise SRNAs during all phases of anesthesia care, including pre-operative assessment, intraoperative administration and management of anesthesia, and patient evaluation and care in the postoperative period.
  • Supervise SRNAs in anesthesia-related activities, such as documentation in the medical record and response to urgent/emergent situations throughout the clinical facility.
  • Discuss the development of and the rationale behind the anesthetic plan of care.
  • Provide learning opportunities for SRNAs.
  • Promote a clinical educational environment conducive to learning for SRNAs.
  • Evaluate and participate in constructive discussion regarding SRNA clinical performance.
  • Encourage SRNAs to initiate open dialogue about anesthesia care, critically think, and develop independent actions.
  • Serve as a first-line resource for SRNAs in clinical instruction or clinical evaluation matters.
  • Inform the Site Clinical Coordinator or Charge CRNA of pertinent SRNA performance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact): The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.

Specifically, the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patient.

Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department-specific competency checklist.
