About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Testing Specialist to join our team in Virginia Beach, VA.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing field observations and testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials on complex, multimillion dollar projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Field Observations and Testing: Conduct thorough inspections and tests of construction materials to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Supervision: Supervise staff technicians on projects requiring multiple technicians, ensuring efficient execution and adherence to project timelines.
  • Training and Development: Assist with training of staff technicians, promoting knowledge sharing and skill enhancement.
  • Troubleshooting: Assist in resolving technical problems that may arise during project execution.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, and clients regarding project status, requirements, and progress.
  • Project Meetings: Attend project-related meetings with clients, owners, and government agencies, fostering collaboration and mutual understanding.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • An associates degree or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, construction technology, geology, geoscience, or a related field (desired but not required).
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in construction observation processes related to concrete, soil, aggregate, asphalt, and fireproofing.
  • Multiple certifications in ACI, VDOT Soil and Aggregate, VDOT Asphalt, and other related certifications.
  • Proficiency in using field-testing equipment, including nuclear density gauges, concrete testing, soils, and other equipment.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends as projects demand.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A flexible working style with an ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, Adobe Acrobat, and/or Bluebeam (desired).
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Estimated Salary Range

$85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
