Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cytogenetics Technologist to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Cytogenetics Technologist, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens to analyze genetic material.
  • Analyze test results and prepare samples for further testing.
  • Calculate test findings and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare and validate solutions, reagents, media, stains, and other materials used in testing.
  • Process and test various types of laboratory specimens, including blood, tissue, and other biological materials.
  • Review and report lab results to healthcare professionals.
  • Perform operational duties, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Act as a resource to other laboratory personnel, providing guidance and support as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology.
  • Registered or registry eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS).
  • Prefer 6 months to 1 year of medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist experience in an acute care facility.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
