Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Social Studies Teacher to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. As a member of our inclusive learning community, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and engaging environment for students with diverse abilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Lesson Plans: Create and implement tailored lesson plans that cater to the unique needs, interests, and abilities of students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues and Support Staff: Work closely with special education colleagues, general education teachers, and support staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Assess and Evaluate Student Progress: Regularly assess and evaluate student progress, making adjustments to instruction as needed to ensure students meet their academic and personal goals.
  • Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians to ensure they are informed and involved in their child's educational journey.
  • Stay Current with Best Practices and Research: Stay up-to-date with the latest research, best practices, and technologies to ensure students receive the most effective and engaging instruction.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Special Education or Related Field: Possess a master's degree in special education or a related field, with a focus on social studies education.
  • New Mexico Teaching Certificate: Hold a valid New Mexico teaching certificate with a special education endorsement.
  • Experience Working with Students with Special Needs: Have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a social studies setting.
