Job Title: Refinish Technician

We are seeking a skilled Refinish Technician to join our team at Gerber Collision & Glass. As a Refinish Technician, you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional customer experiences through the meticulous refinishing of vehicles to restore them to their pre-accident condition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure consistent execution of our WOW plan to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Provide positive energy when interacting with customers or team members.
  • Refinish vehicles according to insurance guidelines and our quality standards.
  • Inspect body and prep repairs for deficiencies that may impact the quality of the refinish process and advise the production supervisor as required.
  • Accountable for ensuring all required line items as per the Repair Orders (RO) are completed to meet our quality standards.
  • Perform all refinish procedures according to factory specifications and our procedures.
  • Ensure all paint deficiencies are corrected through wet sand and polishing.
  • Ensure all formulations, preparations, top coating, and curing meet OEM recommended standards for proper application sequence, timing, and materials usage.
  • Maintain efficient paint material cost as per our KPIs.
  • Complete surface preparation, vehicle masking, priming, and top coating as required.
  • Apply all primers, sealers, basecoats, color coats, and clear coats with correct formulations as per paint manufacturer specifications.
  • Accurately mix paint to ensure quality color match.
  • Immediately notify the Repair Planner of any additional damage that does not appear on the RO.
  • Assist management in the recommendation and implementation of new equipment.
  • Know the status of assigned vehicles and help problem-solve on getting and keeping all vehicles on schedule for on-time delivery.
  • Consistently utilize all required safety equipment and follow proper refinishing procedures in compliance with Ontario Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to all requirements for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Follow vendor procedures to maintain all tools and equipment, including maintenance of paint booth and booth filters.
  • Explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals, which may include other teammates and customers as required.
  • Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions to stay updated with rapidly changing automotive technology.
  • Complete the Quality Control (QC) Checklist before moving the vehicle to the next department.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly production area throughout the workday, ensuring a final cleanup at the end of the day.
  • Work in accordance with the daily production schedule (as directed by the Production Supervisor).
  • Advise the production supervisor of collision repair problems that may have been overlooked that impact the production process.
  • Support all team members when required.
  • Participate in monthly Health & Safety and staff meetings (if required).
  • Attend training, information sessions, and workshops recommended by the Store Manager.
  • Maintain the Assured KPIs (Sales/ GP/ NP/ CSI/ AR/ CT&TT).

  • Actively participate in daily production meetings with the Management Team, as required.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of previous experience in a collision repair facility refinish role.
  • Provincial College of Trades Member preferred.
  • PPG Certification preferred.
  • I-Car Registered (working towards Gold Class certification).
Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of manufacturers' repair/refinishing processes & adherence to Assured's processes.
  • Ability to use selected vendor materials and general supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning by attending Assured/Industry-related training.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret work scope from vehicle estimates or work orders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle repair practices.
  • Effectively work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating multi-tasking ability while working under pressure.
  • Frequently required to bend, crouch, reach, handle tools, and lift approximately 51 lbs.
  • Must provide your own tools.
