Position Overview: The Junior Manufacturing Engineer leverages knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, and cost efficiency while supporting the Manufacturing Engineering team. This role may involve designing or collaborating with designers to optimize product designs for manufacturability and cost reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste in medical device production.
  • Conducts time studies and recommends adjustments to production standards for medical device product lines as necessary.
  • Gains an understanding of regulatory and industry standards for medical device manufacturing (GMP, RoHS, REACH, etc.).
  • Provides direct support to production areas, identifying potential process enhancements, efficiencies, and safety concerns. Continuously monitors scrap rates and initiates projects aimed at reducing manufacturing scrap costs.
  • Collaborates with team leaders and production management to analyze shop order variances (material and labor) and works on initiatives to eliminate discrepancies and enhance actual cost performance.
  • Develops work instructions to effectively communicate the proper setup and operation of manufacturing processes to ensure products meet customer specifications.
  • Trains production team members in the development and application of visual production tools to foster improvements in product quality and production efficiency.
  • Collects and analyzes data to inform decision-making processes.
  • Assists in troubleshooting basic manufacturing equipment issues.
  • Identifies root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommends modifications in designs, tolerances, or processing techniques.
  • Prepares reports summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing performance.
  • Works to develop a comprehensive understanding of customer requirements for new product introductions and ongoing product support.
  • Drafts all necessary documentation for PPAP submissions (FAI, PFMEA, SOP, etc.).
  • Creates and submits ECRs and SICRs to document changes to products or processes.
  • Facilitates the transfer of new products into production, collaborating with the design team.
  • Engages with customers, account managers, manufacturing personnel, vendors, and team members as needed to meet project requirements.
  • Conducts validations (IQ/OQ/PQ activities) on products to ensure compliance with designated specifications. Drafts, executes, and reports validation protocols internally and externally.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Up to 2 years of experience in manufacturing or applications engineering (excluding internships).
  • Experience in a medical device environment and familiarity with lean manufacturing practices is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills are necessary.
