PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To ensure a safe, pleasant, and comfortable environment for students and staff by overseeing the operation and upkeep of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within the district. The HVAC Technician is responsible for executing complex HVAC tasks while operating under limited supervision, exercising significant initiative and independent judgment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- HVAC Technical school certification or Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration license required
- Refrigeration recovery certification
- Water-Cooled/Air-Cooled Chillers Certificate
- Valid Texas driver's license and insurability required
- Expertise in HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation techniques
- Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and technical documents
- Proficient in diagnosing and resolving HVAC issues
- Skilled in using hand and power tools
- Computer literacy and ability to acquire necessary knowledge
- Minimum of five years in the HVAC field
- Three years of experience with chill water systems, cooling towers, and HVAC control systems
- At least three years of experience with HVAC Computer Maintenance programs
- Lead a team in completing assigned work orders.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of all HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various heating and air conditioning systems.
- Install, relocate, and expand heating and air conditioning systems as necessary.
- Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and piping according to specifications.
- Wire and connect motors, compressors, and controls according to schematics.
- Maintain Freon dispensing records to comply with federal regulations.
- Oversee preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC tools and equipment.
- Conduct duct cleaning and air quality assessments as required.
- Select materials and hardware, and estimate time and materials needed.
- Keep accurate records of materials and labor used.
- Inspect completed jobs to ensure cleanliness and compliance.
- Collaborate with building supervisors to complete projects.
- Identify needed repairs through established inspection protocols.
- Respond to emergency calls as necessary.
- Adhere to safety procedures and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report unresolvable issues to a supervisor.
- Perform thermostatic adjustments and troubleshoot using HVAC software.
- Ensure security of vehicles, equipment, and tools at all times.
- Carry out all duties safely to prevent injury to oneself and others.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Assist and support the HVAC Department in managing, directing, supervising, and training staff to ensure effective departmental functioning.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Meter, gauge, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch, office equipment including personal computer and calculator.

Ability to concentrate, communicate effectively, interpret information, reason, read, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control under stress; ability to manage multiple projects with frequent interruptions.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Ability to frequently lift and carry heavy weights, sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, reach, and perform repetitive hand motions. Exposure to temperature extremes, humidity, noise, and various hazards associated with HVAC work. Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
