As a critical component of the food supply chain, our delivery drivers ensure that products reach their destinations safely and on time, while also representing our company and fostering strong relationships with our clients.
In the role of Shuttle Driver, you will be instrumental in our operations by transporting empty trailers to warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to designated shuttle yard locations. The Shuttle Driver operates tandem trailers, tractor-trailers, and/or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. You will engage professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring timely and accurate communication. You will also collaborate with team members across the organization to fulfill assigned duties effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct all necessary safety inspections (i.e., pre/post trip) of the tractor/truck and trailer in accordance with DOT regulations; ensure compliance with company safety standards and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Report any safety concerns or required repairs promptly.
- Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving policies, reporting any safety hazards immediately. Verify that trailers are loaded and secured properly.
- Ensure all necessary route documentation is present with the tractor-trailer load upon dispatch.
- Drive and deliver trailers according to a predetermined route schedule.
- Perform hook/unhook procedures following safety protocols.
- Park and store tractor-trailers in designated areas.
- Ensure all equipment and freight are secured at all times.
- Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in the empty trailer for return to the base facility, completing necessary documentation.
- Unload equipment and materials, and maintain cleanliness in trailers as required.
- Maintain a daily record of hours of service in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
- Perform general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean and organized as needed.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 6 months experience driving tractor-trailers.
- Valid CDL A License.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
- Ability to work a 3rd shift schedule, Sunday – Thursday nights (schedules may vary).
- Pass pre-employment drug screening.
- Pass a road test.
- Possess a valid current DOT Health Card or be able to obtain one.
- Able to lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift; products typically weigh between 60 to 90 pounds.
